Paid for a logo? You may not own it. What a logo really costs in Norway

Logo design invoice with blurred prices, next to the PNG, JPG, SVG and PDF file types

A logo in Norway costs about 3 000–7 000 Norwegian kroner (kr), or €280–650, at a fixed-price logo shop in 2026, and 10 000–50 000 kr (€935–4 675) at a design agency. A full brand identity, with colours, fonts and a guide, costs 25 000–90 000 kr (€2 340–8 415) at the agency GMERK, and up to 250 000 kr in Innovena’s price guide.

  • Cheaper routes: 99designs contests at 2 999–12 999 kr, an average Fiverr logo job at $63 (about 600 kr), AI logo makers such as Brandmark at $35–195.
  • Logo shops quote without VAT (value added tax, 25% in Norway).
  • Whatever you pay, get the vector files (they stay sharp at any size) and one written sentence that gives you the rights.

A logo or a full brand identity?

A logo is the mark itself, in a few versions. A brand identity is the whole look around it: colours, fonts, image style and a guide that tells a printer, a web designer or a new colleague how to use them.

A logo is enough when you’re starting out and use it in only a few places. A brand identity pays off when several people make things for you: the website, signs, the van, posts and offers. Without a guide, each of them picks their own blue.

At GMERK, 25 000–45 000 kr buys 2 logo concepts and simple colours and fonts, and 50 000–90 000 kr adds a workshop, a brand guide and templates. Paid fonts, printing and website setup usually cost extra.

What 99designs and AI tools include

99designs contests in Norway cost 2 999 kr for about 30 designs and 8 999 kr for about 90, before tax, with full copyright and a money-back guarantee.

Brandmark includes copyright, but only its $195 package promises original concepts. Looka’s cheapest package is one low-resolution PNG file, and the vector files come with Premium.

None of the price pages we read promises a trademark check, so looking for similar marks is up to you.

The files you should get

The sign shop asks for a vector file, and all you have is a PNG. A picture file (PNG or JPG) is made of dots and turns blurry when you make it big. A vector file is made of shapes and stays sharp at any size.

  • Vector files: SVG for the web, PDF and EPS (or AI) for print.
  • PNG files with a transparent background in a few sizes, for documents and social media.
  • Versions for light and dark backgrounds, plus a square one for profile pictures.
  • Colour codes: HEX or RGB for screens, CMYK for print, and Pantone if your printer uses it.
  • The names of the fonts, and whether you need a licence to use them.

Check what’s included: Logobutikken’s Standard package has one vector PDF, and other formats cost extra.

Who owns the logo

Paying for a logo doesn’t by itself make it yours. Under Norway’s Copyright Act (åndsverkloven), the person who creates a work holds the copyright (§ 2). The designer gives away no more rights than the agreement clearly says, and buying a file doesn’t transfer the copyright (§ 67).

So ask for one written sentence in the contract or on the invoice: the rights to the logo pass to you, for every use, including the right to change it.

To protect your logo, register it as a trademark at Patentstyret, Norway’s trademark office. An application costs 3 800 kr (€355) for one class, which is one group of goods or services, and 1 000 kr for each extra class. Selling in the EU? An EU trademark from EUIPO covers every EU country, but not Norway. It costs €850 for one class when you apply online, and €50 for the second.

Three checks for the logo you already have

  1. Find the files. Search your email and folders for .svg, .pdf, .eps or .ai. Only .png or .jpg? Ask whoever made the logo for the vector file.
  2. Check who owns the rights. If the contract or invoice doesn’t say they pass to you, ask for it in writing.
  3. Look for similar marks in Patentstyret’s databases: your name and anything that looks like your logo.

Getting quotes? Ask each provider, in writing, for the number of proposals, the file formats, the price with VAT and the transfer of rights.

How we work on a logo

When we design a logo, the first ideas come in 2 days and a full identity in 1–3 weeks, at a fixed price agreed after the first meeting. Once the project is paid, the logo and all its files are yours.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers

  • Innovena puts a freelancer or a template at 2 000–15 000 kr (€187–1 402) for one to three sketches, and an agency logo with several directions and all file formats at 15 000–60 000 kr (€1 402–5 610).

  • Fiverr’s own page gives 11 days as the delivery time for a logo job. A brand style guide there costs $185 on average (about 1 770 kr, €165).

  • You can apply as with any logo, and Patentstyret decides whether it can be registered. To find out first, Patentstyret’s own pre-search costs 3 500 kr without VAT for one class.

  • Logobutikken redraws an existing logo or sketch as a vector from 990 kr without VAT, and Logoutvikling does it for an AI-made logo for 1 490 kr. On Fiverr, redrawing a logo as a vector costs $21 (about 200 kr) per job on average.

  • Often without: the logo shops and GMERK quote without VAT, 99designs before tax, and Innovena and Byråmatch don’t say. Add 25%: a logo at 2 990 kr without VAT costs 3 737.50 kr.
